The Stapleton Library’s New Name

December 21, 2011 Development Updates No Comments

The Stapleton library will now be the Sam Gary Branch Library.

The Denver Public Library announced the name after a unanimous vote during the Library Commission’s December meeting.

The library is under construction at the intersection of 29th Drive and Roslyn Street and will open mid-2012.

Gary has been a Colorado philanthropist for 35 years, and helped shape the plan for Stapleton’s redevelopment.

“We feel because of his support and because of his vision for what Stapleton has become,” it’s fitting for the Stapleton branch to be named after him, the commission said.

Gary founded the  Piton Foundation in 1976. Since then, the Denver-based nonprofit has contributed more than $56 million to education and community programs.
