Fall finds the fourth pool at Stapleton under construction with an anticipated opening in June of 2011. With close proximity to the regional Sandcreek Greenway, the facility takes its design cues from the native riparian corridor. Featuring a pool with elements similar to Aviator pool, residents will enjoy six swim lanes, a diving well, and a children’s learning area. The fourth pool will also feature an ADA, wheel chair accessible ramp into the pool to provide greater accessibility. The pool building will be natural colored concrete masonry and will feature snowy birds in flight across the front façade designed by Nicole Nathan with JG Johnson Architects and hand crafted by local artist, Emmett Culligan. The building will house similar operational elements as the other three pools at Stapleton, including a check-in area, bathrooms, and a small concessions area. An onsite playground will be shaded by six evergreen trees each over 30’ tall, which are being relocated from the old entrance to the airport by the parking structure. As that area makes way for our newest neighborhood, the existing viable trees will be located at the pool and other areas within the new neighborhood. The fourth pool will be a nice compliment to the acclaimed pools
, named by Westword in 2009 as the best public pools in Denver, and will strengthen the overall aquatic offerings at Stapleton.
