The Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge and the Two Ponds National Wildlife Refuge are now open following the federal government shutdown.

The Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge also experienced significant flood damage in September, but made repairs through assistance from the Federal Highways Administration. Here’s the full update …

  • All facilities are open, including the visitor center and the Auto Tour Route. The visitor center is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
  • Most trails are open, but the following trails will continue to have closures due to flood damage: (1) Woodland Trail; (2) Rod and Gun Club Trail; (3) Lake Mary Loop – southern portion closed; (4) Legacy Trail – closed at washout; and (5) Discovery Trail – closed at washout. Updated trail maps are available at the refuge.
  • The Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge fishing program ended for the season during the shutdown. Catch and release fishing is offered every year from April 15 to Oct. 15.
