Why Public Art
Stapleton has set a very high standard for architecture in our residential, commercial and landscape designs. Forest City has a long-term investment in Stapleton, so we’re working to create a place that will stand the test of time. We believe that good design creates good long-term value... for everyone involved.
Public art is just one way Stapleton is working to create value in its landscape. To the right you will see the existing artwork featured throughout the community. As Stapleton grows, our art collection will expand, becoming more and more a living gallery.
Stapleton's Public Art Program
Adopted in early 2005, the Public Art Master Plan provides both guidelines and inspiration for dynamic public art in various locations throughout Stapleton. A Public Art Advisory Committee made up of artists, residents and representatives of other community interests, carefully selects the artists and artwork. The committee evaluates the art based on the qualities of continuity, variety and sustainability, characteristics that speak to Stapleton's mission.
The committee continues to explore a variety of artwork to be placed in accessible locations that encourage people to engage in dialogue with each piece. Each of these locations is selected because of its importance in the life of the Stapleton community.
"Public art has not only the opportunity, but the responsibility, to engage a community," explains Barbara Neal, Stapleton’s public art consultant.
