Stapleton Development Plan Saluted as a “Model” at United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development |
At a three-day roundtable meeting sponsored by The United Nations Council on Sustainable Development held June 6-8, 2001 in Vail, Colorado, the Stapleton Development Plan was saluted as a “model” by leaders in the field of sustainable development from Europe and North America. The meeting was one of five roundtables held worldwide in preparation for the 2002 “World Summit on Sustainable Development” scheduled to be convened in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Among the three-dozen participants in the meetings was Dr. Noel Brown, a former top UN official in environmental programs who has been active in international sustainable development programs for thirty years. Dr. Brown called the Stapleton Plan a “model” for communities devoted to sustainable development. Sir Crispin Tickell, a co-chairman of the Vail roundtable and a former United Kingdom ambassador to the United Nations, also praised the Stapleton document, calling it “an excellent plan.” |
